The Human Body for Kids

Beginner

The human body for children aged 6 to 8, hosted by Lupe, a golden retriever puppy who discovers everything alongside the child. The first episode hands over a picture rather than a fact: a child drawn as six layers, from the outside in, shown again in every episode so the child always knows how deep we have gone. Then the course peels inward, one layer at a time. The skin, the biggest organ there is, which keeps water in, keeps germs out, cools you by sweating, mends itself and carries a fingerprint nobody else in the world has. The muscles, more than six hundred of them, which can only pull and never push, which is why they come in pairs. The bones: two hundred and six in a grown-up, nearly three hundred in a baby, so the number goes down as you grow — with the longest in your thigh and the smallest inside your ear. The heart, a muscle exactly the size of your own closed fist, beating more than a hundred thousand times a day. The lungs, and why the left one is smaller than the right. The trip your food takes, pushed rather than dropped, down a tube more than seven metres long, folded up to fit. The brain, which runs your breathing and your heartbeat while you are not looking, and files what you learned while you sleep. The five senses, including the eye that sees everything upside down and the ear that also stops you falling over. And last, what food, water, playing, washing and sleeping actually do for all of it. Every size is drawn against the child who owns it at the true ratio, and there are no exercises inside the videos and nothing to get wrong.
