Eight of the biggest machines on Earth for children aged 6 to 8, hosted by Lupe, a golden retriever puppy who discovers everything alongside the child. The axis is size, and the line of eight machines that opens every episode is the same ground line with one machine lit, so the child always knows where they are before a word is spoken. Every machine is measured against the only ruler a child always has to hand — themselves, LYING DOWN, because the axis of this course is length and a child standing up occupies thirty centimetres of a row rather than one metre twenty. The building-site digger is ten metres and eight children long, and its arm bends in three places exactly like the child's own. The NASA transporter is forty metres and walks slower than a person, on purpose, because a shake would damage the rocket riding on top. The rocket is seventy metres and three metres seventy wide, the thinnest machine in the course, and its bottom half comes back and lands standing up. The cargo plane is seventy-six metres, lifts its nose like a mouth so long cargo can go in, and it is not the engine that holds it up but the wing. The tower crane is eighty metres and builds itself, slotting one piece of mast at a time into a gap it opens in its own middle. The bucket wheel is two hundred and twenty metres and is the biggest machine in the world that can move itself: when it had to change mines it walked twenty-two kilometres in three weeks. The container ship is four hundred metres and manages to be bigger than anything on land because water holds its weight everywhere at once. And the champion is a train, seven thousand three hundred metres of it, because a train is the only machine that can keep growing backwards.
