Birds of the World for Kids

Eight champion birds for children aged 6 to 8, hosted by Ben, an eight-year-old boy who finds everything out alongside the child. The course opens with the three things that make a bird a bird, feather, egg and wing, and with a board of eight medals, one for each thing a bird is the world champion at. Then it lights them one at a time: the wandering albatross and the biggest wings of any living bird, the bee hummingbird that weighs less than a coin, the peregrine falcon that is the fastest animal on the planet but only on the way down, the Arctic tern that chases summer from one end of the world to the other, the rufous hornero that builds a house of mud with a hidden wall inside, the blue-footed booby whose feet turn blue from the fish it eats, the woodpecker with a bone wrapped round its skull like a seat belt, and the African grey parrot that talks with no vocal cords at all. Every size is compared against a child with their arms out, and six of the eight turn out to be smaller than the child watching.
