Let's Speak Portuguese!
BeginnerA first course in Portuguese for children aged 6 to 8 who speak English, hosted by Mig, a five-year-old boy. Twenty short episodes follow one single day of a child's life — waking up, meeting the family, breakfast, the body, colours, counting, animals, feelings, playing and going to bed — and each stop is visited twice: one episode teaches six new words, and the next one uses them in a small scene without adding any. The words are never spoken by the narrator, because an English voice reading a Portuguese word teaches the wrong pronunciation: every word is recorded separately in native Brazilian Portuguese, said twice, with a gap so the child can say it back. By the end the child greets people, introduces the family, asks for food, counts to ten on both hands, names animals and colours, says how they are feeling and says goodbye. About eighty-five words and phrases, every single one heard at least twice.
