Ancient Peoples of the World for Kids

Beginner

Seven episodes for children aged 6 to 8, hosted by Ben, an eight-year-old boy who finds everything out alongside the child. The course runs on one timeline with seven pins, lit strictly from left to right, from the oldest people to the newest, so that ancient stops being one vague time and becomes a set of very different ones. Episode 1 teaches the line itself and the honest answer to how do we know: they left things behind, stone lasts, and clay keeps writing that turns out to be shopping lists. Then Greece, with a temple whose columns are stacked stone discs lifted by rope and pulleys, and a theatre carved into a hillside that carries a voice to the last row with no microphone. Then China, where the wall is many pieces from many times and far too narrow to see from the Moon, and thousands of life-sized clay figures with every face different turned up under a field. Then Rome, where water crosses a valley with no pump because the channel drops a tiny bit each step. Then the Maya, who watched the sky for years and wrote it down, and who did not disappear: millions of Maya people are alive today. Then the Vikings, whose real helmets have no horns at all. And it closes with the Inca, fitting stone to stone with no cement and rebuilding a rope bridge by hand every year.
