Design multi-account structures with AWS Organizations, Control Tower, and Service Control Policies; centralize identity with IAM Identity Center and federation; and connect everything with hybrid and multi-account networking — Transit Gateway, VPC peering, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, and Route 53 Resolver. Govern cost, logging, and guardrails consistently across the whole organization.

Design brand-new solutions that meet hard business and technical requirements. Choose compute, storage, database, and integration patterns at scale; design event-driven and microservice architectures with EventBridge, SQS, SNS, Step Functions, and API Gateway; handle data at volume with the right database and analytics services; and justify every trade-off against cost, performance, security, and operational excellence the way the exam demands.

Keep enterprise workloads running through failures of any size. Design multi-AZ and multi-Region architectures, pick the disaster-recovery strategy that fits a given RTO and RPO (backup & restore, pilot light, warm standby, multi-site active-active), and engineer business continuity with backups, failover, and data replication. Use Route 53, global databases, and automation to recover fast — and to prove the recovery actually works.

Most of the Professional exam is improving solutions that already exist. Strengthen security posture with detective and preventive controls (GuardDuty, Security Hub, Config, WAF, KMS); raise performance and reliability with observability, caching, and right-sizing; and drive cost down with purchasing models, storage tiering, and the Cost and Well-Architected tooling. Diagnose a running architecture and propose the highest-impact change first.

Lead large migrations from the data center to AWS. Apply the 7 Rs to choose rehost, replatform, refactor, and the rest; plan with Migration Hub, Application Discovery Service, DMS, and the Snow family; and move data, databases, and networks with minimal downtime. Then modernize — containers with ECS and EKS, serverless, and managed services — to cut operational load and unlock scale long after the lift-and-shift is done.
